Mapping Music

Here, I am designing a map of music. I am aiming to visually show a representation of the tonality and pitches of songs. Using sheet music from the Disney film “Beauty and the Beast”, I connect the individual notes and chords to create these line patterns. Each pattern is representing one line of composition. I am focusing on Disney related songs because of the universality of their films. These films and accompanied songs are known all over the world, and so the audience viewing this piece would not only be familiar with songs but the stories they represent. Growing up I learned how to read and write music and I grew fascinated with the pattern of notes on a staff; I thought it looked beautiful. Knowing how music is a temporary art (you hear it and then it’s gone), I want to challenge that notion by physically representing music with the same intensity as when hearing it.
